mikal cronin - mikal cronin (2011)
i’m not sure my friend dan cronin would make music like this, but i’d bet he’d appreciate the flute solos. multi talented and multi instrumented, mikal is bringing the noisy fuzz and boisterously smashed happy pop. echoes of ty segall in here. busier, though. super good jams to wish it was sunnier in portland to.
ultralyd - conditions for a piece of music (2007)
these norwegians would really give the people who squeal every time i play morphine at work something to talk about (comphonie v)… this is heavy even when there’s not a lot going on. is it improv jazz? art horror movie soundtrack? just don’t play it alone in the dark. you WILL think something is out there.
sparks - angst in my pants (1982)
kevin ‘sparked’ my interest in sparks’ 11th (wow) album that should get brought out at more house parties these days. from ‘sextown, usa’ to ‘i predict’ and ‘sherlock holmes’ and everything in between you’ll be moving around and getting into some dirty love, hopefully.
Group Bombino - Guitars from Agadez (2009)
Bombino is beyond impressive, his supporting cast are fantastic as well. Don’t get weirded out by it being under the title of “world” music. This isn’t music for tim robbins character in high fidelity. first half is dry/acoustic, second half is electrified Bombino, baby. His newest release, Agadaz, is a step to take on next.
there’s a great live video of ‘boghassa’ online. catch it for the dance off between bombino and some guy in the crowd
